Zions Bank (Zions First National Bank) is an American bank: a subsidiary of Zions Bancorporation (NASDAQ: ZION). As of 2012, Zions Bank operated about 125 branches and 150 ATMs distributed between Idaho and Utah.

History

Zion's Savings Bank and Trust Company was started by Brigham Young, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), in 1873. This became Utah's first chartered bank. In 1957, Zion's Savings Bank and Trust Company (1873), Utah Savings and Trust Company (1889) and First National Bank of Salt Lake City (1890) merged and became Zions First National Bank. The apostrophe in the word "Zion's" was dropped.
In 1960, the LDS Church sold most of Zions First National Bank to Keystone Insurance and Investment Company. The owners of Keystone took over the bank. Zions First National Investment Company became the majority owner of the bank stock in Nevada in 1961. Still under Keystone's control, the investment company became Zions Bancorporation in 1965. Zions Bancorporation went public in 1966.
